Power to fine public sector bodies £5,000 for failing to use Welsh slammed as ‘tokenism’

A spokesperson for the board said the commissioner will be able to prevent Welsh public sector bodies simply paying lip service to the language. These bodies have to set up Welsh language schemes outlining how they will offer their services bilingually and the board can investigate when they breach them.
