Bruneians should lessen the use of bahasa rojak or Malay infused with other languages in conversation, said the head of Magazine and Journal Planning Department at the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP).

KUALA LUMPUR: A Korean expert in Jawi has expressed concern that the script is increasingly being forgotten in Malaysia, especially by the younger generation. Prof Dr Kang Kyoung Seok, of the Pusan University of Foreign Studies who lectures at the Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI), said that if such a situation continues, the script may become extinct.

WE all know that Bahasa Malaysia is the national language. However, if a person is called to court as a witness, must he give evidence using Bahasa Malaysia or can he choose to give evidence in any other language?

THIS is what is suspected of the future of Bahasa Malaysia/Melayu: in a generation’s time, it is possible to be very familiar with the English language, even conversing on a market level, simply by learning and studying the Malay language in its current form.

KUALA LUMPUR: More linguistic and literary activities involving people of all races should be held during the celebration of the National Language Month in October, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

If the current decay continues, the Malay language may no longer serve as the language for administration, jurisprudence and even philosophy," Dr Awang said.

SINGAPORE: An album has been recorded of 25 Malay folk songs for children. It is by the Malay Language Council to commemorate the Malay Language Month in July. The Malay Language Month was held once every two years before this.

Despite Hindi being the national language of India, it is not learnt and spoken by all, because, it is not compulsory to study our national language. But, in Malaysia, there is a single language Bahasa Malaysia which is strictly implemented and hence every Malaysian, wherever they go, can converse among themselves.
