Keeping the Cornish language alive by taking tips from our Manx cousins

Places at the nursery schools are funded by the IoM Government and the schools are all very popular. Cornish Language Partnership awarded £360000 over 3 years

...Kernewek, as Cornish is known, gained official recognition under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in 2002. It shares about two thirds of its vocabulary with Welsh, and even more with Breton and is spoken by about 300 people fluently with thousands more able to hold a conversation. In 2008 a standard written form was agreed in an attempt to unify the orthographies and move forward the revival.

Fears for Cornish Language Partnership

The Cornish Language Partnership says it is facing an uncertain future unless the government approves its bid for funding. The partnership was set up in 2005 to co-ordinate efforts to promote the Cornish language.
